FAQ

  • WHAT CAUSES UNWANTED HAIR GROWTH?

According to current medical science, excessive hair growth is primarily caused by three factors; Normal Systemic Changes, Glandular Imbalances and Heredity. A woman goes through three main cycles in her lifetime; puberty, pregnancy and menopause. At each stage, because of hormonal changes unwanted hair can appear. Certain medications can be the culprit for the appearance of unwanted hair. Many different health conditions can also cause excess hair to grow. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and many other health conditions with glandular or hormonal imbalances will likely cause excess hair growth. Interestingly, stress is also a cause for unwanted hair growth.

  • WHAT IS ELECTROLYSIS?

Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method for permanent hair removal. In the process, a fine, sterile probe is inserted into the natural opening of each hair follicle and a small amount of electrical current or heat is discharged. The discharge of the electrical current or heat is done in order to eliminate the blood supply to the hair follicle; thus, preventing it from producing another hair. The loosened hair is then easily removed with tweezers.

  • HOW DOES IT DIFFER FROM OTHER HAIR REMOVAL TECHNIQUES?

Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method for permanent hair removal. Electrolysis works on all hair and skin types. Other modalities are not able to treat all skin and hair types; and thus, can only be considered a method of hair reduction. Methods of hair removal such as tweezing, threading, and waxing are temporary fixes. The important point to remember is that other than electrolysis, no other hair removal process can claim permanency in eliminating future hair growth.

  • IS THE PROCESS PAINFUL?

Every person’s tolerance to pain is as individual as they are and that plays a major role in the degree of pain that each individual will feel during the treatment. Factors such as caffeine usage, water intake, the area to be treated and menses are some examples of how each treatment session can cause varying levels of pain tolerance. Electrolysis destroys tissue in the hair follicle so some will feel just an annoyance while others will have more discomfort in the treatment process.

  • WHICH PARTS OF THE BODY ARE SUITABLE FOR ELECTROLYSIS?

Electrolysis can be used to eliminate any hair, anywhere on the body. Electrolysis has stood the test of time in demonstrating the effectiveness of hair removal on all hair and skin types. The most common areas that women choose electrolysis for are the upper lip, chin and eyebrows. Men often choose electrolysis to manage unibrows, beards and ear hair.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE HAIR REMOVAL PROCESS AND HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO COME FOR TREATMENT?

The cyclical nature of hair growth differs from person to person; therefore, an individualized plan for treatment frequency and duration will be discussed at the initial consultation. Initially, treatment sessions will be quite frequent. As the treatments progress there will be less and less unwanted hair. This will result in allowing you to come less frequently, as well as have shorter sessions. It is important to adhere to the treatment plan that is recommended in order to achieve the best results.

  • WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY SKIN AFTER TREATMENT?

After a treatment it is perfectly normal for the treated area(s) to have redness and swelling. The swelling and redness will usually last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. However, for some these symptoms can last longer. Other normal symptoms include soreness, skin break outs that form small whiteheads, tiny scabs at the site of the follicles, and even bruising. It will be important to adhere to the suggested after-care procedures in order to heal as quickly as possible.
